St. Mary’s Health Center has a new tool in its surgical technology toolkit – accreditation.
The St. Mary’s Surgical Technology Program was granted accreditation for a five-year term by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. The certification allows graduates of the program to be eligible for the certification exam offered by the National Board of Surgical Technologists and Surgical Assistants.
A surgical technologist functions as a surgical team member under the direct supervision of a surgeon and prepares a safe environment by using aseptic techniques in the operating room. The St. Mary’s Surgical Technology Program is an 18-month program of required courses and clinical experience.
